We can highly recommend Getting Married in Denmark! From our very first contact until our wedding day, everything was perfectly organised. Communication was always friendly, professional, and incredibly fast. Whenever we had a question, we received a prompt reply, which made us feel well looked after and completely at ease throughout the entire process. Our wedding on the beautiful island of Ærø was truly unforgettable. The island and its charming little towns provide the perfect setting for a romantic and memorable wedding. A huge thank you to the entire team at Getting Married in Denmark for making everything so easy and stress-free. We are very grateful for your support and would choose you again without hesitation. We highly recommend Getting Married in Denmark to any couple planning to get married in Denmark!

Getting Married in Roskilde is a great option for those couples who are happy to travel for a short distance outside the capital city of Copenhagen. It is close enough that the travel time does not impede too much on your time in Denmark, yet far enough away to feel like an adventure!

Why Get Married in Roskilde?

You may have already heard of Roskilde as it hosts the very famous Roskilde Music Festival each year, but it has a lot of other wonderful things to offer to those looking for the perfect town for their wedding.

Roskilde is less than an hour away from Copenhagen on the train, making it a great alternative for those that don’t want the long wait times of Copenhagen city hall, while remaining close to Copenhagen.

Roskilde is a pretty harbour town, with a lot of history, including its magnificent gothic cathedral!

It is now only possible to get married in Roskilde on 1 day per month. This day will usually be a Thursday and which Thursday each month will be determined by the town hall.

Witnesses can be provided by the town hall if you need them.

The town hall advises it can take up to 3 weeks for a response but it is often much quicker than this. Usually around a week, sometimes quicker but sometimes longer, depending on how busy they are. So our advice here is to remain flexible with your date as during the spring and summer months the response time does increase.

You can present your documents 10 minutes before your wedding ceremony at the Roskilde town hall.

The Look and Feel of Getting Married in Roskilde

There are 2 town halls in Roskilde, however, weddings will take place in the New Town hall. This is the bigger and more ‘modern’ style building and then an older, more historic building, located in the centre of Roskilde.

You will find kind and welcoming staff who are there to ensure you have the very best wedding day!

How To Get To Roskilde

From Copenhagen airport it takes just over 30 minutes to get to Roskilde by train

If you want to drive from Copenhagen, it will take only a little longer, just 50 minutes

What Can We Do While in Roskilde?

The cathedral in Roskilde is the jewel in Roskilde’s crown. It’s a magnificent building, over 1000 years old and with a history that oozes from every corner. The final resting place of many Danish Kings and Queens (40 in fact) and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it’s impossible not to be seriously impressed when walking inside its walls. A must visit when in Roskilde.

Want to know more about the city you’re getting married in? Then take a visit to the Roskilde museum. A half a day spent here will tell you all the important things you need to know about Roskilde and its history. You can view important archaeological finds, old weaponry, skeletons, tombs and much more!

When in Denmark…. 😁Well, it would be rude not to, right? Visit this fascinating museum to learn everything you could want to know about Denmark’s Viking history, the way of life, the boats, the tools and how Vikings changed the world.

Take an afternoon out to dine on M/S Sagafjord. As you sit on the Roskilde Fjord, soaking in the lovely views!
